Dr. Chen Lin is a Clinical Associate Professor and Area Head of the Writing Program at NYU Shanghai, where he has been teaching since 2014. A native of Shanghai, he holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Washington in Seattle and a BA in English Language and Literature from Fudan University. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, he had developed and taught literature and composition courses at two prestigious public universities in the US. At NYU Shanghai, Dr. Chen teaches Core Curriculum writing courses required for all undergraduates, including Writing as Inquiry and Perspectives on the Humanities, as well as a Global China Studies course exploring Sino-Western cultural relations over the past four centuries through the lens of translation. His research spans multiple fields or disciplines, with peer-reviewed publications in comparative literature, translation studies, composition studies, and general education. A dedicated educator and advocate for cross-cultural dialogue, Dr. Chen has also delivered public talks and led workshops on writing and general education at leading universities in Shanghai.
