Recently, SeaWorld decided to cut all “dolphin surfing” trainer tricks during dolphin shows in all of its marine parks. Visitors will no longer see any tricks that include trainers riding through the water on dolphins on their backs or snouts. 

近日，美国海洋世界决定取消旗下所有海洋公园的海豚表演中“骑海豚冲浪”的节目。以后游客将再也不会看到驯养员骑在海豚背上或站在海豚鼻尖上冲浪的场景了。

This is another big change that SeaWorld has made to enhance animal welfare since the release of an explosive documentary titled Blackfish in 2013, which revealed the cruel treatment a killer whale received from human beings. From then on, SeaWorld has stopped breeding orca, ceased all whale kissing and dancing performances, and provided more educative performances and less circus-style ones.

2013年，纪录片《黑鲸》上映，该片讲述了一头虎鲸遭受来自人类的种种残酷虐待，引发轰动。自此以后，美国海洋世界终止了虎鲸繁殖项目，去除了鲸鱼亲吻、舞蹈等节目，删减马戏团风格的海洋动物表演，转而加入更多更有教育意义的活动。此次取消骑海豚冲浪表演是其保护动物的又一重大举措。

The latest decision of SeaWorld to cancel dolphin surfing was disclosed in a letter sent by one of its attorneys to the Securities and Exchange Commission at the beginning of February. The letter mentioned that the idea was put forward by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal (PETA), a holder of SeaWorld stock, which proposed a shareholder vote in December, 2019 to end dolphin surfing in the parks’ shows. 

海洋世界最新的取消骑海豚冲浪表演的决定最早是在二月初海洋世界的一名代理律师向美国证券交易委员会提交的一封信函中披露的。信中提到，该项决定是由海洋世界股东之一、善待动物组织（PETA）发起，该组织于2019年12月召集海洋世界股东投票决定是否取消海洋公园中表演的骑海豚冲浪节目。

It is stated in the letter that the parks have already stopped their trainers from riding on the back of dolphins, and will remove the tricks that include riding on a dolphin’s snout in a few months.

该信称，所有公园已禁止驯养员骑在海豚背上进行表演，并将在未来几个月内去除包括站在海豚鼻尖上的其他表演。

This is an improvement since it reduces abuse at SeaWorld, but orcas and other dolphins are still subject to some other cruel practices. Dolphins in the wild swim around 100 kilometers a day, but in SeaWorld they are usually locked up in tiny concrete tanks. In addition, they are often placed in unfamiliar groupings, which can cause much stress and aggressive behaviors. 

这项举措是海洋世界在减少动物虐待方面的一个进步，但虎鲸和其他海豚科动物依然遭受着其他残酷的对待。野生海豚每天大约游100公里，但在海洋世界里，它们往往被禁锢在狭小的水泥池中。另外，这些海豚经常被迫与陌生海豚共处，这样容易给海豚带来很大的压力并导致攻击性行为。

According to PETA’s executive vice president, SeaWorld may ultimately release these creatures to seaside sanctuaries, but only on being dragged. PETA is now pressing the company to put a plan in place.

PETA执行副总裁表示，海洋世界最终可能将这些海洋动物都投放到滨海动物保护区，但是只有持续对其施压，他们才会采取行动。因此，PETA正在敦促海洋世界尽快落实该项计划。
