Cassidy Hutchinson Said the Lawyer Tried to Influence Her Testimony

TRANSCRIPT

A witness to last year’s insurrection of the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6 told the congressional panel investigating that insurrection that she was urged by Trump allies, that’s allies that former President Donald Trump to be less than forthcoming.

AP correspondent Norman Hall reports.

Former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson told the committee she experienced a wide-ranging pressure campaign from Donald Trump’s allies aimed at influencing her cooperation with Congress and stifling potentially damaging testimony about Trump. In extraordinary closed-door testimony made public, Hutchinson said those in the former president’s circle dangled job opportunities and financial assistance as she was cooperating with the committee investigating the Capitol riot. She testified her own lawyer, a former ethics counsel in the Trump White House, told her “the less you remember, the better.” Norman Hall, Washington.

The U.S. National Weather Service warned Thursday that a major and unusual storm system affecting nearly two-thirds of the United States is forecast to produce “a multitude of winter weather hazards” over the next three days, including heavy snow, strong winds and dangerously cold temperatures. In its advisory, the NWS said the powerful winter storm could produce widespread disruption and potentially crippling impacts across the central and eastern United States. By Friday, about 75 percent of the country is projected to have freezing temperatures. Speaking to reporters Thursday, President Biden said people need to take the weather seriously. “... this is not like a snow day, you know, when you were a kid; this is serious stuff. And my team is prepared to help communities weather this ― no pun intended ― this storm, this ― this freeze, and ― because we need to cope.”
