Message by Gates on Chinese Lunar New Year 2021
比尔盖茨2021中国农历新春祝福

TRANSCRIPT
Hi, everyone, and Happy Lunar New Year.
I know this is an important time in China. Most of years, it’s a time to travel home and reunite with family. Obviously, things will be different this year for many people.
My hope is that by next year, life will be much closer to normal than it is today. I think that holidays in 2022 would look a lot like holidays did in 2019 and before.
But in order for that to happen, we need to eliminate this disease. COVID-19 needs to be brought under control everywhere.
And that would take a global response. I’m very pleased that China made a strong commitment to the ACT-Accelerator, an effort to ensure equitable access to COVID diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines to everybody around the world - no matter where they live.
Though the pandemic is far from over, it’s also a time to start thinking about what we want the future to look like. Melinda and I have been spending a lot of time on that. This year, in our Annual Letter, we write about the actions the world needs to take to bring this pandemic to an end and to make sure we’re better prepared for the next one.
The last year has been hard, but I’m still optimistic. I’m confident we’ll beat this virus and build a stronger, healthier, more equal world than we had before.
Thanks so much, everyone. Have a happy and healthy Year of the Ox.
