Getting you Hired! Resume Do's and Don'ts. I'm Cheryl Casone with the FOX Business Network.

Six seconds– that's all you have. Six seconds, is the average time a potential employer spends looking at your resume. So the way your resume is laid out, makes a big difference.

Advice from Tom Gimbel, CEO of the staffing agency LaSalle Network:

(Gimbel) "You don't want to do paragraph format. You want to do bullets. Crisp, sharp– it's more appealing to the eye and it makes the key things that you accomplish stand out."

But don't stand out too much! Gimbel says some job seekers actually put artwork on their resumes. Don't do that.

(Gimbel) "You get a lot of people who want to be creative. They want to stand out and they'll have crazy fonts, they'll have, it looks like stationary– like they're writing a thank you note. You want to keep this thing professional, Cheryl."

And be professional on your social media too. Surveys indicate that 68% of employers will find you on Facebook. So get rid of those embarrassing posts and photos.
