Malaysia Detects Covid-19 Strain That Is 10 Times More Infectious
The Malaysian Institute for Medical Research has detected a new strain of the novel coronavirus, according to the country's Health Ministry director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The mutation, called D614G, was found in at least four confirmed cases in two clusters which are currently under control, said Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He also advised the public to continue to apply preventive measures, such as physical distancing, maintaining hygiene and wearing face masks.
Japanese researchers found that the novel coronavirus that has been in Japan since June is a variant of a European strain, the Japan Times reported on August 7.
They found that the country's outbreak in mid-March was mainly caused by a European strain of the novel coronavirus.
The spread of the virus waned in May due to containment measures.
However, a month later, a variant of the virus, with a new genetic sequence, appeared centered in Tokyo and spread throughout the country.
A genomic research team in Odisha, India, identified 73 novel variants of the coronavirus strain, local media reported, adding that the detailed character of the novel coronavirus will be helpful to treat patients and cure the disease.
COVID-19 deaths have surpassed 50,000 in India, data published by the federal health ministry on Monday showed.
