Hello, I'm Justine Greene with the BBC News.
The governors of two of the biggest US states, California and New York have warned of a worsening public health crisis as hospitals are taken up by coronavirus patients. The New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said further restrictions would have to be introduced to prevent the health system being overwhelmed.
The California Governor Gavin Newsom warned that hospitals are continued to fill rapidly to dangerous levels. Sophie Long in Los Angeles.
Intensive care units reached 85% capacity, triggering regional stay-at-home orders, subjecting millions of Californians to the most restrictive regulations since the statewide shut down in March. Group gatherings are banned and businesses that had just started to reopen have been told to shut once more. But some local sheriffs say they won't enforce the renewed lockdown. Meanwhile, the country's top infectious disease expert warned the spread of the virus could accelerate further still during the holiday season and into the new year.
