Message by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on House Building Visit

Hi, folks.

It’s fantastic to be here in this amazing development in Stretton, which is part of Warrington, where you can see Barratt are building about 180 wonderful new homes. And what we’re announcing today is a package to speed up the building of fantastic new homes like this around the country. 

Not using Green Belt sites, we’re going to protect the Green Belt, protect and enhance the Green Belt, but allow local people to have more of a say in speeding up the development of great sites around the country, to give young people in particular the chance of home ownership which they’re currently denied, and to drive the UK economic recovery as well.

But the long-term advantage of what we’re doing is that it will even out one of the great unfairnesses that I…I think has arisen in the last 3 or 4 decades…2 or 3 decades, which is that young people, by comparison with people of my age, quite frankly, find it much, much harder to get on the property ladder. We want to help local communities to build the homes that those young people need.
