The lockdown has been lifted in Wuhan in China's Hubei province, where the coronavirus pandemic started. Train road and rail connections have been established two and a half months after the authorities locked down the city of 11 million people.

The acting Secretary of the Navy in the United States, Thomas Modly, has resigned after criticism of his handling of a crisis, in which the commander of a ship stricken by coronavirus was removed from his post. On Sunday, Mr. Modly told the crew of the aircraft carrier that captain Brett Crozier was "too naive or too stupid" to remain in command.

The number of people in France who have died from the coronavirus has now risen above 10,000. In the past 24 hours, 607 death has been recorded in hospitals. There were 820 death recorded in nursing homes, but these may have taken place over several days.

The head of the group of Eurozone finance minister has called on them to take bold measures in response to the coronavirus crisis. Mário Centeno is urging them to approve an ambitious economic recovery plan.

Voters in Wisconsin are facing long queues to cast their ballot as the state presidential primary goes ahead, despite concerns over the virus outbreak. In the city of Milwaukee, only five out of 180 polling stations are open due to a shortage of volunteer workers.

Uganda has been invaded by a new swarm of locusts, which are devastating farms in the east. There is concern that funds earmarked for locust control are being diverted to fight the coronavirus.

A Paraguay court has allowed the Brazilian former football star Ronaldinho and his brother out on bail from a prison. The two have been held since the beginning of March of allegations they used faked passport to enter Paraguay. Ronaldinho and his brother had used the passports when going there to promote a book and for a campaign took for under privileged children. They denied any wrongdoing.
