A nighttime curfew has come into force in Afghanistan designed to stop Taliban infiltration into urban areas. It covers most of Afghanistan's provinces with the only exceptions being Kabul, Panjshir and Nangarhar.

The French interior ministry says more than 160,000 protesters have taken part in the latest demonstrations across France against COVID restrictions. The biggest protests were in Paris, which saw some clashes with police who made several arrests.

Protesters have again taken to the streets across Brazil in support of vaccination and to demand the impeachment of President Jair Bolsonaro as the country struggles with high numbers of COVID deaths.

The senior Guatemalan anti-corruption prosecutor Juan Francisco Sandoval has left the country just hours after being removed from office. He's reported to have crossed the border into El Salvador. The government said he'd been dismissed because of abuse of office, but Mr. Sandoval says he was fired for seeking truth and justice.

The Vatican has for the first time published details of its property and investment portfolio. The document shows it owns more than 5,000 properties.

Iraq has announced the arrest of suspects in the bombing of a market in Baghdad that killed at least 30 people earlier this week. IS said it carried out the attack in a mainly Shia district of the capital.

Tanzania has received 1 million Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccines from the United States in a sharp departure from the policies of the late President John Magufuli, who advocated prayer and herbal remedies.

And a site in Saudi Arabia that is home to a treasure trove of ancient rock art has been added to UNESCO's World Heritage List. UNESCO described the area in southwestern Saudi Arabia as containing rock art images depicting hunting, fauna, flora, and cultural lifestyles.
