TRANSCRIPT

Hello, I’m Chris Barrow with the BBC News.

President Biden has urged congress to act now to ban assault weapons following Monday’s deadly school shooting in the US city of Nashville. The shooter Audrey Hale killed three 9-year-old children along with three staff members.

Police said Audrey Hale bought seven guns legally and hid them at home. They interviewed the 28-year-old’s parents who said Hale was under doctor’s care for an emotional disorder and should not have had any weapons. Tennessee has no laws that allow police to seize guns from violent suspects. The family of one of the victims, Mike Hill, a custodian at the school, released a statement saying he was beloved by the faculty and students. 9-year-old Hallie Scruggs’s father is a local pastor. He said the family would one day be reunited with her.
