Sharing their royal Christmas cards photos with the public has been a 70-year tradition with the British royal family and this year has seen an addition: Now that Prince Harry is a married man, he and Meghan Markle have added their own.

Not unexpectedly, although a bit disappointing for some critics, Meghan's and Harry's photo is different not only because it's black and white but also because the couple, who are expecting a baby next spring, chose a photo from their wedding in May that, although the first made public from their private wedding reception, shows them with their backs to the camera.

Taken by fashion-and-portrait photographer Chris Allerton, the young couple appears with their arms around each others waists as they look at a spectacular fireworks display over a lake at Frogmore House.

The  young royals, who will enjoy their first Christmas as a married couple and their last without children, are planning to move early next year from the cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace where they have been living to a quieter and more secluded home on the grounds of Frogmore House in Windsor.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are delighted to share a new photograph from their Wedding Reception at Frogmore House on 19th May," Kensington Palace tweeted. "The photograph, which features on Their Royal Highnesses’ Christmas card, was taken by photographer Chris Allerton."

For their part, Prince William and Kate Middleton chose a more traditional family picture, with their three children, including baby Prince Louis who appears for the first time in their Christmas card.

The photo, taken in the fall by photographer and filmmaker Matt Porteous in a wooded area of Anmer Hall, their house in Norfolk, shows the young family relaxed, seated on a log as jeans-clad Kate holds her smiling baby while William, shirt sleeves rolled up, holds the older kids, Princess Charlotte and Prince George, arranged playfully around him.

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to share a new photograph of their family," the Palace announced. "The photograph, taken by Matt Porteous, shows The Duke and Duchess with their three children at Anmer Hall, and features on Their Royal Highnesses’ Christmas card this year."

Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also chose a photo taken during the summer outside in the garden of Clarence House, their central London home.

Taken by London photographer Hugo Burnand - who made the wedding pictures of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011 and of Charles and Camilla in 2005 - the Christmas photo shows the future king and his wife sitting on a bench gazing at each other.

As is also tradition, the entire family will have Christmas together with the queen at her Sandringham residence.
