◆TRANSCRIPT

Talking to yourself in the third person. Yes, usually people would associate that with excessive hubris or arrogance even, but researchers at Michigan State and the University of Michigan have found that talking to yourself in the third person can trigger a part of your brain that associates it with the way you talk about others and after emotional experiences, using third person language helps you distance yourself from something traumatizing.

Other parts of the study also found that talking to yourself, whether first person or third person, can generally reduce levels of anxiety during periods of stress.
